2011-02-20 I spent most of yesterday and part of today getting my laptop ready [I'll be spending next month in Florida]. All the photo software, plugins, utilities, etc. To test the results I needed a photo or two. Looking around my room, I saw two of my hats, and voila, here is the test picture - uploaded, converted from RAW, processed a tad, saved, commented, and sent to SmugMug.
Thanks for the comments on yesterday's picture - yes, I often thought that the Star Wars people took their inspiration from this. [p.s. 2010-07-23 OK, enough wide angle. Here is something a bit 'closer'. A common yellow fungus (don't know, don't care the scientific name) growing on tree bark. This is a re-shoot on a tripod of a hand-held shot a couple weeks ago. For that one I was using a high-end macro lens, for this one just some screw-on multiplier lenses. Thanks for all the comments on my glossy UN building picture. 2010-07-11: Our son arranged a grill party for some friends yesterday, and made the deserts himself. He wanted caramel icing on the cake, so his mother burned some sugar. Worked well and the whole party was a success. [n.b. My wife tells me that you cannot caramelize European brown sugar because it contains molasses that turns bitter when heated]. Our son leaves in a month for university, so he has been working on his cooking skills.
