District 22
The Gänsehäufel public swimming area on the Alte Donau. An island remaining after the regulation of the Danube, it was opened as a public swimming area by the city in 1907. It is by far the largest public bath in Vienna, or perhaps in Europe. Up to 30,000 visitors can swim and relax here. The Nivea balloon (far left in this shot) is a lifeguard stand.
