Flashing Blue
2010-09-05: This butterfly was resting on the path, with its wings flashing blue as they slowly opened and closed. The picture is from several days ago. Not sure why the proboscis is extended - perhaps picking up a bit of moisture from beneath the stones? I'm not sure of the name, probably a female Apatura ilia (Lesser Purple Emperor), common throughout Europe and Asia.

I've been 'offline' the last two days, mainly from other tasks and responsibilities. I thought I was retired! Thank you extremely much for your kind comments on the lonely boat on the lake. So much support is amazing. I gave a talk to the church men's group yesterday about photography and now they say I am an expert. I keep repeating "I'm just learning". Learning from my community friends on Smugmug. Enjoy Sunday!
