Large insect, small flower 2012-05-06 I'm not sure what kind of insect this is (it doesn't have a glowing tail), but it sure had a hard time getting on top of this flower in our lawn. 2012-05-23 After 30 hours without internet or telephone - and waiting at home for technicians to arrive - I took a few shots in our garden. This is the first rose to blossom from the orange climbing rose we planted last year. A very nice color - some pink, some orange.

2012-05-16 Well, today is rainy with the temp about 10C (50F) - but last week was hot. I went swimming here for the first time this year - not too many people around yet. The water was 'invigorating'.

2012-05-12 The beautiful organ (2004) in the Jesuitenkirche (Jesuits Church, aka Old University Church) in Vienna. It is a faithful reproduction of a French romantic organ - even down to the slightly narrower keys and narrower gaps between pedals. The fresco is "the adoration by the shepherds" by Andrea Pozzo (1702).

2012-05-11 My car was in the shop getting its summer tires mounted, so I took a walk on the Donauinsel - the 21 km long artificial island built in the Danube thirty-some years ago. There is a lot of healthy nature there. This little one was so busy it didn't mind me getting close.

2012-05-02 Did you know that Vienna has 1000 cherry trees? (donated by the Japanese government in 2002 to celebrate 1000 years of Austria). They are still young, but in April very beautiful - especially when the weather is sunny, as here on the Danube Island recreation area.

2012-04-30 Looking at some unprocessed pictures from last month, I came across this salamander displaying something under its chin. I don't know anything about salamanders, but I assume it is a defence/warning device. I caught it in this one shot, along with several rather boring pictures of it simply sunning itself. Taken in Sarasota, FL.

2012-04-28 It is mating season along the edges of the slow-moving waters in the Lobau park near me. This frog is one of many that 'accompanied' my walk in the park yesterday this croaks and gurgles. This one is pretending to be part of the natural cover in a hidden corner of water.
