"Friendly Alien"? The Kunsthaus Graz, the modern art museum in the Austrian city of Graz, constructed 2003. People think it looks like a octopus - or a pig on its back. On its website, one finds the statement "The designers of this project, the London architects Peter Cook and Colin Fournier, created an impressive synthesis which unites their innovative design language with the historic setting of this urban district along the Mur...While the building’s interior is meant to inspire its curators as a black box of hidden tricks (Colin Fournier), its outer skin is a media façade which can be changed electronically. " The net result, according to the local paper, is that everyone photographs it, and few people actually go inside.
The View from Graz Graz, the capital of the Austrian province of Styria (Steiermark) is a compact city of 300,000. In the middle of the city there is a hill where the original fortresses had stood since the 13th century. The view from there is of the surrounding mountains. After 40 years in Austria, this was my first trip to Graz, and I was at a conference and only had a few hours of free time to grab some shots.
