Castle Heidenreichstein Situated on the northern edge of Austria, near the Thaya River, this castle is one of the string of defensive castles along the 'edge of civilization' in the early 11th century. It is one of the few castles still with a moat, although now just a pond. The owners still live there. Many thanks for ranking my pollywog shot under the top ten yesterday.
Liechtenstein castle the one just south of Vienna. Originally from the 12th century, the present castle was rebuilt in the 19th century. It has served as the family seat of the Liechtenstein family, and today hosts summer theatre and festivals. You may recognize it from a scene in the Disney version of the "Three Musketeers" film.
Unknown Hilltop This is a shot scanned from a 35mm slide. I have no idea where or when - probably in the 1970s and most likely somewhere in Lower Austria when I was out with a hiking group. The scanned image has been cleaned up.
