We came across this vantage point by accident. The dam (designed before, built after World War II) prevents flooding on the Kamp River, produces electricity, and provides a 4.3 square km lake for recreation.
The Organ at Göttweig Abbey In the Abbey church, this organ still has the original Baroque housing. The organ itself is relatively new (1983) and totally mechanical. I particularly like the nine puti playing instruments along the balcony.
Plankenstein Castle This is a very old castle on a hill of 'white stone' (e.g. Blanc Stein) south of the Danube in Lower Austria. It was important up until the mid 16th century, after which it fell into ruins. It was purchased by an architect in 1975 who invested 35 years and over a million dollars in fixing up the buildings. He sold it to another 'castle enthusiast' in 2010 who has now outfitted 40 hotel rooms and a tavern. P.S. A couple days ago I posted that I was going to be interviewed by the Austrian television station ORF about my favorite summer spot in Vienna. The session was broadcast yesterday. Since a link was requested, here it is - three and a quarter minutes (of which I appear for maybe 15 seconds): http://tvthek.orf.at/program/Wien-heute/70018/Wien-heute/10191857/Wien-heute-Sommerserie-Stadler-Furt/10195947
