Working the Locks 2011-07-18 One more from the hotel, then we are on the road again. Here is the first mate preparing the next lock, crew (responsible for windlass and rope work) just exiting the boat, and our boat waiting between locks on the Watford flight of the Grand Union Canal. Many many thanks for the many comments on yesterday's shot. I'm very grateful.
Cruising by Braunston A section of the Oxford Canal, just west of the Braunston Junction with the Grand Union Canal. This is just a 'teaser' - the first shot I've processed. We are off the boat, having spent a nice dry week on the water. Now recovering for a day in Cambridge before heading back to the continent. There was no internet (and no TV or radio) on the boat, of course - and we didn't stop at any WIFI-enabled pubs. We had a strenuous but great time.
See you in August 2011-07-05 Leaving in an hour or two for another trip on the UK canals. This time starting at Rugby. We've been doing this for a while. This shot is from 1998. The guy on the right now steams around on big ships, and the guy on the left is now 19 (and approaching 2 meters tall) and will be the crew on this trip. I'm still the skipper :) I probably won't have much ability to post during the next few weeks - canal boats don't have wireless - and even if there is a shore-side signal, the boat itself is a metal tube. Thanks for the comments on the choir shot yesterday. Yes, our church services are always interesting and vary from week to week. P.S. Today marks exactly a year in the Dailies. A great community. I see that I have posted 250 pictures in the last 365 days. Time to clear the gallery and start again.
