Remembering 2010-01-03 Vienna has a Friedhof der Namenlosen (Cemetery of Unknown Ones) down the Danube where drowning victims tended to be washed ashore. It hasn't been used since 1940, but is still cared for. It has a melancholy feeling, especially during the winter. A very few graves have names (identified after burial), most of the name plates are empty or simply say "unknown". I thank you for your comments on yesterday's industrial scene. This cemetery is in the same area.
Happy Christmas 2010-12-17 Enough of old photos! My health is much better and yesterday was a beautiful, cold winter day, so I was out and about. Here is a shot taken in front of the Karlskirche (St. Charles' Church) in Vienna Austria. I hope you enjoy the holiday preparations without too much stress. Thanks for the kind comments on my postings of the last two weeks.
Saints or Musicians 2010-11-16 Here are three sculptures on one side of the main portal to the church Maria am Gestade in Vienna. The church is from the 1400s, but (according to Wikipedia) these sculptures are from renovation work in the early 20th century. A link to an older outside view of the church tower is here: http://www.jerrybarton.eu/gallery/7986304_3kMN8#633289885_WgYRs Many many thanks for your comments on the Greta. I was unsure of that picture - it is a bit of boat, a bit of harbor, a bit of sky without being definitely anything. But it did have a nice 'old' feeling to it.
