Special Force - Danube Canal This shot won't mean much to people who haven't been watching German language television for the last decade. There is a successful police show featuring the "Danube Force" of the Austrian police - always a lot of scenery and the best equipment. This shot shows the patrol boat on the Danube Canal (i.e. the only part of the Danube that most people see). The Austrian police have 9 boats in Vienna - including some very fancy ones, and a total of about 50 boats in all of Austria. This small boat is used for a general patrol to see what's going on along the extended quays and walkways along the canal.

Contemplation 2013-06-03 Not everything in life is party, party, party. This young man chose a seat outside the "Theseus Temple" in one of Vienna's parks to site and think. [The Theseus Temple is a small folly in the Volksgarten, built in the early 19th century to hold a sculpture of Theseus fighting a centaur. The sculpture is now in the art history museum, and this 'temple' now holds contemporary art installations. It was recently renovated]

Whichever Direction you are headed, have some fun today. 2013-05-30 See on the "Alte Donau" - an old arm of the Danube cut off and reserved for recreation. No motor boats allowed. It is a holiday here today, so - despite cold weather - lots of people will be out. Enjoy your day.

Wakeboard Stylin' in Vienna 2013-05-31 At one point on the 21 km (13 miles) of the "Neue Donau" channel, there is an overhead cable with ropes. People more fit than I can go around and around. This fellow chose his own outfit. I would have worn more - in addition to protection, the water temperature is only about 13C (55F).

Exhaustion 2013-05-29 This worker had spent the day giving the large sluice gates on the Neue Donau a spring cleaning. Dirty, hard, wet, cold work. [The gates are usually closed - opened in times of flooding of the Danube] I decided to keep the colors muted in an attempt to reflect his mood. Critiques welcome. [P.S. Hear ye! Hear ye! The Medieval Fair season has begun. 2013-05-05 Seen yesterday at a small fair in Marchegg, Austria. Its first year, so no big crowds and the German "professional" medievalists were still at their fairs in Germany. This troubadour sang well (in Middle High German as well as modern German), played at least four different instruments, and entertained. Thanks for the comments on my shot of idyllic Lake Neusiedl

These guys just finished baking their own cookies at an advent market in Vienna. They were posing for a shot taken by their teacher. This advent market has activities for children inside as well as the stands outside. Many thanks for the comments on yesterday's shot. Much appreciated.

Christkindl 2012 Her name is (supposedly) Amanda. She likes swimming, rugby and baking. She is 17 years old and the City of Vienna's official Christkindl 2012. The Christkindl is the traditional gift-bringer in German-speaking countries, an angel or sprite. It seems I hadn't taken any pictures for exactly one month. I've been busy with my other 'jobs'. So yesterday I went to an Advent market in Vienna. The official job of the Christkindl is to be at holiday markets, greeting the children.

Fashion Show 2012-08-07 Not my usual metier, but my wife wanted to attend this fashion show. It was a public show, put on by the Natural History Museum, using only historically accurate designs and amateur models. It was a bright, hot hot day - everyone else in shorts. I found a higher spot and clicked a few (hundred) shots. The theme was 'from prehistoric times to 1800'.

Early Fashion 2012-08-23 I'm still working on my shots from that fashion show early in August, moving backwards in time. This shot shows an farmer in the early centuries of the present era. I went for a long walk on Tuesday - without my camera - and saw more dragonflies than the rest of the summer combined. Critiques welcome. I don't use a vignette much, but it seemed to fit this shot.

Seats in the City 2012-08-15 These so-called 'Enzos' have been around for a decade, giving people a place to stretch out and relax. They are in the courtyards of the Museums Quarter in Vienna. This year's color is 'candy shop pink'.

Special Day 2012-08-08 I'm putting together a small book of Adams baptism celebration (which was joyful in church and then went elsewhere and continued for hours with many friends of his parents and lots of African food). Look Behind! Look! A Head! 2012-07-27 As seen on the 'Alte Donau', a recreational area in Vienna. On hot summer days, all kinds of people are around, in, and on the water (just no boats with motors, except electro) Many thanks for the overwhelming response to my 'hesitation' picture. Much appreciated. [And the 'guest' comment "it's red" was from my wife, who often does not know what to say about my pictures]
