Play Ball(s)! 2010-09-15 Another picture from the Türkenschanz Park in Vienna. Lots of green space for reading, resting, or practicing juggling. Being 'beyond the beltway' it is not overrun with tourists as some of the 1st district parks are. This shot is just thirty steps away from yesterday's fountain shot, and I thank you for the kind comments on that shot.
Pauline's Tower Dedicated to the memory of Pauline Metternich who helped fund much of the park, the Paulinenwarte in the Türkenschanzpark in Vienna's 18th district was recently renovated and re-opened to the public. It stands 23 m. above the park, and carries a dedication by the Emperor from 1888 hoping that the then suburbs would become part of Vienna - which they did. This picture is what I call my 'para-sketch' style - I've added a sketch layer blended with the original to emphasize the lines, and the colors are slightly bleached. This is the last of the pictures from the park - for the time being :-> Thanks again for all the comments on my pictures over the last three days.
Just a Park 2010-09-14 A fountain in the Turkenschanz Park in Vienna's 18th district. This park is the one that reminds me most of New York's Central Park - lots of trees, waterways, playgrounds, different elevations (although much smaller than in NYC of course). A perfect place for strolling on a mild day. Many thanks for the comments yesterday on Tuluba (which means 'big ears'). I need to go back and try for higher resolution shots - he sure is photogenic. I haven't been so conscientious about commenting in the last couple days - I try to improve. It's so interesting when comments flow back and forth.
