Franz Joseph 2010-01-05 I was out with my wife yesterday - she to visit the Ethology Museum, and I to visit the Albertina Museum. Her museum was closed, so as I waited for her, I took a couple shots. Here is one of Emperor Franz Joseph I on horseback, sitting on the top of the ramp of the Albertina. You can see what he has to put up with - a new-fangled flying roof, and a strange 'sun room' on top of a neighboring classic building. Thanks for your comments on yesterday's partial eclipsed (missed). It turns out that I hadn't quite missed it, but the shot was "overexposed". And thanks, Judy, for the hint - yes I did have a polarizing filter on the lens.
Alberner Hafen 2011-01-02 An 'old time' treatment of a not quite derelict part of Vienna's harbor, in a district called Albern. It was built during the war (by Nazi prisoners) and barely maintained since then. The large grain stores are unused. Some building materials and grains are cross-loaded between ships and trains here. There is a thoroughly modern and busy freight harbor a shot distance upstream from here. And many many thanks for the wonderful comments on my New Year's Eve shot. You are too kind - but it is much appreciated.
Happy New Year! 2011-01-01 OK, so it isn't Sydney or Times Square, but it has the advantage that you are at home. This is the view in one direction along our sleepy little street last night near midnight - all of this is privately set off, and judging by the quantity and quality, the economic crisis seems to be over (much more than the last two years). I hope your start in the new year is a happy one! And thank you all for the kind comments on my shots during 2010!
