Jugendstil The house built by Otto Wagner - Vienna's premier Jugendstil architect - in 1898 on the Linke Wienzeile street at number 40. The surface is ceramic tiles that can be cleaned easily. Floral patterns are everywhere. [This version cleaned up to deal with wide angle distortion]
Classic and Modern 2011-10-11 The 'Linke Wienzeile' street has many attractive houses. The house at number 40 was built by Otto Wagner in 1898, as part of the Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) movement. The walls are ceramic tiles with lots of curved metal and floral patterns. This house, and others, were built despite the opposition of the traditionalists, who wanted more classic houses as at left. This shot gives me vertigo - and looks off-kilter to me - but I've checked and all the verticals are really vertical. A shot of the whole front of #40 can be seen here: http://www.jerrybarton.eu/Landscapes/Vienna/7986304_r9xtwT#1523887784_zNXQbQJ
