The Schmerl Bridge At the entrance to the Donaukanal. Designed by Otto Wagner, completed 1898.
The Steinitz Bridge Completed in 1996, it served as an alternate bridge over the Danube and the New Danube while the nearby heavily travelled North Bridge was being renovated. Once the renovations were complete, the bridge was reserved for pedestrians and cyclists. It received the name "Steinitz" in 2009 in remembrance of Wilhelm Steinitz, the chess master who died in 1900.
The Waluliso Bridge This pontoon bridge connects the Danube Island (behind the camera) to the 22nd district dike, crossing the "New Danube" flood channel. The pontoons are removed in the winter and the ends raised. It is named after a "Vienna Original" of the 1970s and 1980s who wandered around town in a toga promoting peace and his mantra "Water, Air, Light, and Sun" (WAsser, LUft, LIght, SOnne). He also collected signatures for the successful preservation of the Danube Island as a recreation and nature preserve.
