The Waluliso Bridge This pontoon bridge connects the Danube Island (behind the camera) to the 22nd district dike, crossing the "New Danube" flood channel. The pontoons are removed in the winter and the ends raised. It is named after a "Vienna Original" of the 1970s and 1980s who wandered around town in a toga promoting peace and his mantra "Water, Air, Light, and Sun" (WAsser, LUft, LIght, SOnne). He also collected signatures for the successful preservation of the Danube Island as a recreation and nature preserve.
The "High Bridge" Working on some architecture shots for my 2015 calendar. This is a shot of the Hohe Brücke in downtown Vienna. It crosses a low road that used to be a small river until the river was diverted (800 years ago). The present bridge was finished in 1904 in Art Nouveau style. The chimney sweep is the icon for a major lottery company in the right-hand building.
Cityscape with Hare Taken in downtown Vienna two weeks ago before the heat wave. PP for a sketched effect. And an extra gold star goes to those who know why a large red hare is on top of one of the buildings.
