In addition to burning 250,000 tons of waste annually with almost no emissions, it creates 65 Gigawatt Hours of electricity annually and 410 Gigawatt Hours of heat for remote heating of households in Vienna. The iconic color of MA 48 vehicles is orange.
Between districts 2 and 22 The "U2" bridge - always designed to carry the U2 subway across the Danube, it started life as a replacement bridge for vehicles while the nearby Prater Bridge was being widened.
What a difference a day makes 2013-02-02 For two days we had spring temperatures, the snow melted, and the sun appeared (disappeared again yesterday). At any rate, this is a shot of Vienna without fog (to compare with the previous daily shot http://www.jerrybarton.eu/gallery/12809003_GAzkc#!i=2341491675&k=kGkwsJT). That's St. Stephan's Cathedral in the heart of Vienna, of course, with a view towards the south-west into the Vienna Woods and beyond. Update: This is a compressed telephoto shot, of course. The distance from St. Stephan's to the business/housing complex in back is about 8 km (5 miles), and to the first hills behind another 8 km or so. That last little grey 'bump' on the horizon is about 60km away. I was standing on an observation deck 150m up - and it was very cold and very very windy.
