Just a Lamppost 2011-11-10 and an autumn bush and a crow, in the afternoon sun.. Captured in front of the Votive Church in Vienna, Austria. Many thanks for your comments on the rower. Much appreciated.
Viennese vineyards 2011-10-15 "downtown" is downhill to the right. These vineyards are fields are still within the city limits. The skyline shows the Kahlenberg and Leopoldsberg hills. The Kahlenberg has had some modern buildings added - a hotel, a conference center, and a university. This vineyard looks to be a young one and the wires have already been strung for training the vines so that they get maximum sunshine. Thanks for the many nice comments about the carving on the Karlskirche portal - much appreciated.
Vienna 1715 2011-10-13 This shot shows a detail of the carving above the main doors of the Karlskirche in Vienna. The church was conceived as a votive offering by the emperor Charles VI for relief from the plague. The scene shows the patron saint of the church (St. Karl Borromäus) pleading with heaven in the name of the city - which can be seen in the background. Many thanks for the comments on the 'organic house' shot - esp. to Paul for 'resuscitating' the picture once it had disappeared.
