Going Down 2010-12-28 One of the passageways to the recently opened extension of the Vienna subway/underground/UBahn. The trains now come to my part of town, so I can get downtown in about half an hour, rather than an hour by bus or car. This is the Schottenring station, connecting the U2 and the U4 trains to the Ring boulevard trams.

construction 2010-12-13 A picture from an old slide - of no particular value, except perhaps historically. This shot shows the construction of the Vienna subway line U1 across the Danube. Taken in the summer of 1979 from the top of the not-yet-opened UN Vienna headquarters building. The rail bridge on the right is for the 26 tram from the 22nd district into the city. The tower of St. Stephen's Cathedral can be seen as a shadow on the horizon. Many thanks for the neat comments on yesterday's picture of roasting chestnuts. How do they taste? Well, a soft slightly sweet starchy nut taste is how I would describe them.
