Bipod The fellow behind the lens is professional wildlife photographer Karl Leitner, "Vienna Wildlife". His tripod was set up towards a rookery, and as he swung around to photograph another scene, a friend helped him. 600mm with 1.4 extender.

Take 2: Bamboo Love 2012-04-19 I did what I mentioned in my previous post - I went back to the Botanical Gardens with my tripod and made a sharper picture. The light was different as well (brighter), and I notice that I was closer than in the original picture. Still, in my humble opinion, this shot is better than the previous one for the 'shades of green' competition. [and by the way, both shots have been rotated to horizontal, the original is vertical.] Many thanks for your comments and thoughts.

Bamboo Love 2012-04-17 As seen at the Vienna University Botanical Gardens. The local photo club has a theme of 'shades of green' for its monthly contest. When I spotted this collection of bamboo, and then noted the inscription, I thought it might work. I don't think it is sharp enough for submission, though (hand-held, high ISO, low DOF). I'll have to go back with a tripod.

Thanks, Harsh! 2011-09-16 OK, so it ain't a great photo - but I wanted to show how we mounted Harsh's (Hershey) picture of Tigress T17 in our guest room. Many thanks to Harsh for his kind permission to use his masterpiece in this way - especially since my mother-in-law is visiting from the US and she worked in India in the 1960s (and my wife grew up there).

Town and Country 2011-02-20 I spent most of yesterday and part of today getting my laptop ready [I'll be spending next month in Florida]. All the photo software, plugins, utilities, etc. To test the results I needed a photo or two. Looking around my room, I saw two of my hats, and voila, here is the test picture - uploaded, converted from RAW, processed a tad, saved, commented, and sent to SmugMug. Thanks for the comments on yesterday's picture - yes, I often thought that the Star Wars people took their inspiration from this. [p.s. When viewed via my laptop it looks to me lighter than when viewed via my desktop computer - I may still have some laptop adjustments to do.

Up and Away 2011-02-18 A departure for me. The day was so blah that I didn't go outside. I have only rarely taken indoor shots. These are some glass balls/stones my wife keeps in a jar. I tried several ways of shooting them - this is the best of the bunch imo - sharp and a bit dynamic, but I'll have to keep practicing. Thanks for all the comments in the last few days.

Fungus 2010-07-23 OK, enough wide angle. Here is something a bit 'closer'. A common yellow fungus (don't know, don't care the scientific name) growing on tree bark. This is a re-shoot on a tripod of a hand-held shot a couple weeks ago. For that one I was using a high-end macro lens, for this one just some screw-on multiplier lenses. The original has a dreamy quality to it, but this is a better picture, IMO. Using the wide angle in landscape mode, I've had to lighten the dark areas on the computer - the scene covers such a wide range that one side is light and the other dark.

Hats Off! 2010-07-20 Something different for me today. Working up a few shots for the monthly photo challenge of a photo club here in Vienna. This month's theme is "still life". Since I have the hats (and many more), the idea for this photo came to me. I have another week until the deadline, so I may play with this idea a bit more. P.S. This is less than half my hats. The flowers are fresh from our garden. Thanks to all for the encouraging comments on yesterday's photo. wonderful group of people.
