This owl goes by different names throughout Europe and Asia. There are only a dozen or so in Austria. I don't understand the German name - Sumpfohreule "Swamp Ear Owl". Seems confused. I was with a group, and the leader pointed out the owl, perhaps 150m away. In the Hansag on the border to Hungary.
Pannonian Mood This too is Austria. "Pannonia" is a loosely defined term (based on a Roman provincial name) that defines parts of eastern Austria and western Hungary. As the name implies, it is flat. The land, with several small lakes and one big one, is home to a national park, lots of vineyards, and other agriculture. It is warmer and dryer than the rest of Austria.
Falco tinnunculus - Kestrel In German, its name is "Tower Falcon" for good reason. This composite shot shows one bird hovering and searching a field in Burgenland, Austria. I didn't think there were any "tower falkens" in lowland Burgenland, but from the colors, he is correct.
