Breakfast for the family I am generally of the opinion that the world has enough pictures of geese - especially the Greylag Geese that are present in the 10s of thousands in Austria's Seewinkel area. But I spent the last several days there photographing birds, and I thought this scene was nice. The Seewinkel area has a national park including a lake and several brackish ponds and hosts many many migrating birds every spring.
Common Redschank Still in the Seewinkel part of Burgenland. One of about 300 breeding pairs that arrive in March and leave again in July. Very common along the edge of shallow ponds.
Great (or Common) Egret I may have posted a similar picture a year ago. Here at the edge of Lake Neusiedl in Austria they are abundant. The reeds form a nice backdrop and a good hiding and nesting place. A few get as far north as Vienna. Some also breed in the Netherlands, and 2012 one breeding pair was spotted in the UK.
