Young Ones Not yet even astronomical spring, and these young grey herons are just about ready to fly. The shot is from yesterday, at the rookery in Vienna's 21st district. They are waiting for a parent to return with an afternoon snack.
Catching some rays Unbelievable weather here. One of the driest and warmest winters ever. Predication is for temperatures well above 20C (70s F) the rest of this week.
"Urban" Egret White egrets usually do not get quite as far north as Vienna, but I saw one at the edge of a pond in the National Park that is partly within the city limits. It wasn't there the next two times I checked. Sometimes you have to be lucky.
