Large White 2011-08-26 Pieris brassicae. This is a much much better picture (in my humble opinion) of these small white butterflies currently flitting everywhere. A slightly different species - but when they are flying, you can't tell the difference. This one is resting briefly on a sorrel leaf in our garden. I went out before it got too hot and caught this shot. Many thanks for the comments on yesterday's portrait - esp. to those of you who found the picture. It disappeared for about six hours from the 'dailies'.
Green-veined White 2011-08-24 These small butterflies are flitting around gardens and meadows - very difficult to catch on camera (at least for me). Thanks for yesterday's comments and for posting excellent pictures. I didn't get around to much commenting yesterday - spent most of the day cleaning up the cellar to get away from the heat.
This summer's dragonfly 2011-08-19 I haven't seen many dragonflies this summer - none in the garden. So I went out yesterday to take dragonfly pictures at the municipal greenhouse gardens - and found one (this one) almost ceaselessly cruising his territory around the edge of a pond. When he rested briefly on a reed I snapped this shot. Many thanks for the comments on yesterday's picture. Many of you commented on the perspective. Yes indeed - I was lying on my back shooting upwards. The things we do for a picture.
