This summer's dragonfly 2011-08-19 I haven't seen many dragonflies this summer - none in the garden. So I went out yesterday to take dragonfly pictures at the municipal greenhouse gardens - and found one (this one) almost ceaselessly cruising his territory around the edge of a pond. When he rested briefly on a reed I snapped this shot. Many thanks for the comments on yesterday's picture. Many of you commented on the perspective. Yes indeed - I was lying on my back shooting upwards. The things we do for a picture.
Waiting for sunshine
Banded demoiselle (Calopteryx splendens) 2011-07-23 the male is blue with dark spots - the female is green without spots. Not the sharpest picture, but it shows both together. These dragonflies accompanied us all along the canals in England during this trip. For a sharper shot of just the male: http://www.jerrybarton.eu/gallery/8068199_FK3HC#1395469728_fBtNLvP
