Pollywog For the last two weeks I've been trying to find tadpoles to use on the Friday lexicon challenge - and Wednesday I finally did. The shots are not great - actually fairly bad, but the word is good. Pollywog = head + wiggle. Tadpole = toad + head And just because I'm in Austria, the German word is "Kaulquappe" (which you don't learn in German for Adults class). Kaul = fat head + quappe = wobble back in the Middle Ages. I found them in a new pond created by the Vienna Garden Office (thus the ropes giving some places for plants to grow. The frogs found the pond before the plants did. And many thanks for ranking yesterday's dragonfly shot under the top ten.
Rudy Darter A perfect "T" landing on a lone stalk of greenery at the edge of a pond. The dragonflies are now starting to appear. Seen in Vienna. Many thanks for ranking yesterday's shot in the top ten. P.S. It was a black-headed gull, still in its winter plumage. About half the colony were already black.
Seen during our 2015 canal trip, Warwickshire Ring. One of the ponds at Middleton Lakes nature reserve, which the canal bisects.
