Partial Eclipse - Too late 2011-01-04 Today, shortly after dawn (i.e. starting 08:05) there was a partial eclipse of the sun in Vienna - and the sky was clear. But I was a tad late. This was supposed to be a shot of the eclipse, but it looks like I just missed it. At first I thought the bluish cresent must be the moon, but I can't make that work with the geometry - so it is probably just a lens artifact. I was worried about hurting the camera, so I shot very fast and very small, and then pulled the picture up. Many thanks for your comments on my cemetery shot yesterday - I should have gone back early this morning to shoot with the sun facing the graves rather than behind them. Oh well.
Seeing Snow 2010-12-26 While yesterday's dinner was in the oven (duck, stuffing, backed potatoes and sweet potatoes - plus veggies), I started reading one of my presents - the book "Photography and the Art of Seeing" by Freedman Patterson. It has exercises on seeing and creativity. Reading the section on "relaxed attentiveness", I started looking around, and this is what I saw - snow falling on the bushes surrounding our garden. I hope to share other 'newly seen' pictures in the coming weeks. Many thanks for your comments on my shot of creche figures. Interesting that Curtis and I both shot pictures of the same stand. P.S. The formality of our Christmas dinner was slightly disturbed by our son showing up in his pajama trousers. But his only pair of trousers - until his luggage shows up - was in the wash. At least he managed to get here from the States by Christmas Eve.
Icy Lavender 2010-12-6 Another icy shot from our garden. This one of a lavender plant. My wife has gone out every day to brush the snow off it - now the ice has encased it. Many thanks for the comments yesterday. I have no idea how that plant spreads its pollen - perhaps only in early spring when it is just finishing blooming.
